Script writing

Select a novel, a student created narrative and transform it into a script for a play or movie.

Board or Card Game

  • Create a board game (Snakes and Ladders) using the setting from a novel or student created narrative; Include desired locations as well as undesirable locations.

  • Create cards for each character in a novel or student created narrative; on each card include a character’s avatar, superpower, speed, intelligence, stamina points; create a game based on an existing structure such as Pokémon.

Character Debate

  • Choose two opposing characters from a novel; study their opinions, beliefs, values and motivations, reactions; choose a real-life situation or a topic from the book and debate as if embodying the two characters

Write/compose a theme song

  • Write lyrics for a song that represents the theme of a novel

  • compose a song using instruments around the room (percussion, voice, bells, tone bars, etc); decide what key and tempo suits the theme of the book

Expressive dance

  • Choose a piece of music best suited to the theme of the book

  • Choose a character and study their beliefs, values, feelings, thoughts

  • Choose a prop that is important to the character (backpack, hat, etc)

  • Choreograph a dance that either tells the character’s story or describes a moment in time for the character

Write an old style poem researching old words to use instead of the everyday words we use today

Write a poem that only uses Latin/Greek derived words

Design a wardrobe for the main character

  • Choose a character in the novel.

  • Examine likes, dislikes and preferences

  • Examine personality traits

  • Design a wardrobe collection for the character to wear for a week

  • Extension: sew and outfit for the character

Create an artwork to capture essence of the novel

  • carefully consider the theme of the novel

  • examine the character’s inner traits, desires, thoughts

  • examine a significant setting for the novel and/or character and determine what it adds to the plot and character

  • Research famous and classic artworks about similar themes

  • Research symbolism in artwork

  • Plan and create a piece of art that captures the theme, character and setting of the novel using symbolism
